Kano: Obasanjo calls for markets’ regulation in Nigeria
Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Tuesday called for the regulation of markets across the country and the provision of required fire fighting equipment.
He said in Kano that the regulation will help in averting future occurrence of fire disasters, such as the one that occurred in Sabon Gari market where almost the entire market was ravaged by fire.
Obasanjo said the huge loss of property in Sabon Gari market was irreplaceable as Nigerians have failed to imbibe the culture of insuring their wealth and property.
He also seized the opportunity to condole with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on the death of his mother.
In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the market management will be proactive henceforth in averting fire disasters.
Ganduje also commended Chief Obasanjo in his effort to keep the nation as one and his fatherly role and mentorship to all citizens.
